steppingstonesJane Zwillinger Ables served as the Wildflower Music Festival Artistic Director for six years and also held the position of Executive Director for many of those years. Jane died following a short and unexpected illness in 2005.

To honor Jane’s years of service to Wildflower as both the artistic and executive director, the Board of Trustees of the Dorflinger-Suydam Wildlife Sanctuary dedicated the 2006 season to her. As a permanent tribute to Jane, her children established The Wildflower Steppingstones Fund for Young Artists.

img_1087The Steppingstones Fund will be used to present a concert each season by a newly emerging talent. Jane’s love of music crossed many platforms, and it is hoped that the Steppingstones Concert each year will reflect her varied interests. This talent may be a student at the university level or a performer just starting in the business.

The first concert of the Steppingstones Fund was held on Sunday, July 30. The performer was an outstanding young pianist named JingYi Zhang. The 2007 concert featured young musicians recently graduated from Marywood University.

For 2008, Steppingstones presents three talented young students from Marywood whose native home is Cuba. Their unique talents will bring an energy to the Widlflower stage free concert open to anyone.

Contributions in Jane’s memory for the Steppingstones Fund for Young Artists may be sent to:
